Machine washable doormats are by their very nature easy to clean. Just pop them into the washing machine! There are of course different types of washable doormat and we will discuss these here.
Types of Machine Washable Doormats
There are two main pile types available that re used in the manufacture of machine washable doormats. Nylon or Polyamide twist pile or cotton. Both Nylon twist pile and cotton are effective at removing moisture, grit and dirt from foot traffic. Nylon twist pile has an advantage in that it is exteremely hard wearing and therefore suitable in high traffic commercial situations such as shops, supermarkets, offices, airports, railway stations etc. Cotton pile is the most effective at removing moisture as it is very absorbent. Cotton machine washable doormats are very durable but not quite so hard wearing as nylon which makes the an ideal choice for medium traffic domestic situations.
Machine washable doormats come with 3 main backings, vinyl, rubber gripper and rubber waffle. Vinyl backing is mainly used to keep the cost down and these mats are generally only suitable for occasional washing. Rubber gripper backing is suitable for use on hard floors and carpets and a waffle backing is most suited to use on hard floors. Both of these types are suitable for regular machine washing.
Washable Doormats Care
Smaller mats, generally up to 90cm x 120cm are suitable for cleaning in a domestic washing machine. Larger mats will require washing in a commercial laundry machine. Many machine washable doormats are also suitable for drying in a tumble drier which means they can be returned to use with the minimum of delay.
